We offer a diverse range of language programmes which sets the foundation for our students to pursue careers in international business, banking, foreign services, government, education – secondary, college & schools abroad and tourism.
Languages for Business and Tourism
The goal of this programme is to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to function effectively in today’s global marketplace. It is student-centred and caters to different learning styles. This highly successful programme prepares students for careers in business and tourism. Graduates of these programmes gain a solid ground for further studies at local and overseas universities. The Associate Degree language courses are relevant and functional and are designed with very specific purposes in mind. They provide students with knowledge and skills that can be transferred directly to the workplace, specifically in the areas of business and in the tourism and hospitality industry. In the Languages for Business and Tourism programme, students are trained in the use of technology in the workplace, conduct island tours and prepare business correspondence in the target language and acquire first hand knowledge into how companies are formed and how they function through case studies they submit on successful Barbadian companies.
French and Spanish with Themes
This programme focuses on an in-depth study of French and Spanish-speakers and on their cultures through a wide range of current social issues such as the youth, the environment, nutrition, technology, politics, education, business, etc. The programme provides sound preparation for university study and for students wishing to specialize in translation and or interpreting. The development of analytical skills and the knowledge gained from the content of the courses provide a good foundation for lifelong learning and serve the student well in the world of work especially in the fields of education, foreign affairs, tourism and international business.
Entry Requirements
The minimum requirements for entry into the College are:
- Four (4) passes at CSEC General Proficiency Level with Grade 1, 2, or 3 (from June 1998 only) OR
- Four (4) passes at GCE Ordinary Level with Grades A, B or C OR
- Any qualification considered by the College to be equivalent to the abovementioned.
NB: English Language and a foreign language are compulsory, French or Spanish.
